Please make sure your child is in school each day this week and next week so that he/she can complete the assessments. Please schedule appointments after the school day so that it does not conflict with testing.

"Good evening Crystal families, this is Kristen Witt calling with this week's announcements.

Beginning on April 14th, our students will be taking the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress. This is the field test for the Common Core standards. Remember, there will no longer be CST assessments for English and math. However, our 8th grade students will still take the science CST this year, during the first week in May. If you want more information on the Field test you can access information on our website in the parent section. It is very important that students be on time and stay for all of their classes during this testing window. Please avoid scheduling appointments during the school day from April 14th-May 9th.

Innovation Day 2014 will take place on May 22nd. Students have been submitting their plans via Gmail and via links on our school website. Talk to your son/daughter and find out what he/she plans on producing on Innovation Day. Information for Innovation Day can be found on the homepage of our schools' website. Just visit cms.fsusd.org.

The spring Technology Survey is now open for parents and students. Please take some time to take the technology survey. You can access the survey on the front page of our school website.

Our next holiday will be a four day weekend. There is no school on April 18th and April 20th, please mark your calendars.

Have a wonderful evening, and we will see everyone tomorrow."

"Good evening Crystal families this is Kristen Witt calling with an announcement. All students heard an informational presentation today during PE on the dangers of engaging in "Chinese Knockout" or any activity that blocks off oxygen. The presentation was a joint effort with the school,  the Suisun police department,  the Suisun Fire department, the paramedics, and Northbay trauma center.  Please talk with your students to see what they learned about the activities today. We do have informational flyers courtesy of Northbay in the front office for any parent that may want one. If you have any questions please feel free to call me at 707-435-5800. Thank you and have a good evening."

"Good evening Crystal families, this is Kristen Witt calling with a very important message. We want to alert families to a dangerous game that we have found out some students are engaging in. Students are referring to the game as "Chinese Knockout." The students that have been engaging in this game are causing themselves to breathe heavily, become dizzy and lightheaded, and even "black out." Please talk with your children and let them know the serious physical dangers of engaging in any types of activities like this.
If you have any questions or information that would be helpful,  please call my office at 435-5800."

"Good evening Crystal Families, this is Kristen Witt calling with this week's announcements.

I would like to begin by thanking all of the parents that came out to last Friday's coffee with the principal. I greatly appreciate your insight and questions that were asked.

As a reminder to all, school begins each day at 9:00 AM. Please make sure your children arrive prior to 9:00 so that they can be in their seats by the 9:00 bell. Also, we would like to ask that you try to schedule appointments after school hours to reduce the amount of times students are removed early from class. Every minute of every day makes a difference in each child's education.

I am extremely excited about our visit tomorrow. Tomorrow we will be visited by State Superintendent of Education Tom Torlakson. He will be on site to see our No Excuses Univeristy approach, our use of the Common Core standards, and our integration of technology. If your child wants to wear college clothing tomorrow, it would be a great way of sending the message that our students are college bound. Look for pictures of the visit later in the afternoon on Monday on our Twitter account @CrystalMiddleCA and on our website at cms.fsusd.org.

Have a wonderful evening and a great week!"

Good evening Crystal families, this is Kristen Witt calling with two reminders for this week.

Tomorrow night Crystal will be hosting a parent information night on the IB program. The night is geared towards parents of 8th grade students, but parents of 7th and 6th graders are welcome to attend. The event begins at 6:00 PM in the multipurpose room and Dan Harrison the IB coordinator from Armijo will be presenting.

I want to stress to everyone the importance of students being on time to class. Each time a student is late to class it is a disruption and negatively impacts his/her education and the education of the other students in the room. Please reinforce with your son/daughter the importance of being in class and in his/her desk before the bell rings. Please note that students that are tardy are being assigned after school detention. We would like to see all students on time to all six periods.

Thank you for your support. Have a wonderful evening.

     October 20, 2013

"Good evening Crystal families, this is Kristen Witt calling with this week's announcements.

Beginning, Monday there will be changes to our electronic device policy. This year we tried to give more freedom with student phones and tablets, but many students have been abusing the privilege.  Because the abuse has caused campus wide disruptions and encouraged negative behavior, we are making changes effective tomorrow, Monday, October 21st. Students may only use phones, tablets, and other electronic devices with specific teacher permission and only in a classroom. Electronic devices including earbuds are not to be out and visible before school, during passing period, or at lunch. Please reinforce this policy with your child on a regular basis. Consequences will be issued to students that violate the electronics policy.

This week is Spirit Week. Students are encouraged to dress up according to each day's theme. Monday is Sports day, Tuesday is Backwards day, Wednesday is College PRIDE day, Thursday is Disney Day, and Friday is Superhero day.

This Wednesday, October 23rd is our 4th night of PIQE, Parent Institute for Quality Education. Please join us from 6:30 PM- 8:00 PM on Wednesday the 23rd to continue to learn how best to support your middle school student and prepare them for success in high school and college.

Have a wonderful evening and a great week."

We are very excited about our College and Career Fair that will take place this Wednesday, October 9th during lunch. Please ask your son/daughter about the event when they get home on Wednesday.

We are still in the middle of our schoolwide Cookie Dough Fundraiser event. The last day for students to fund-raise is October 14th. Orders are due to the first period classes on October 15th.  This fundraiser provides money for our Associated Student body to spend on this year's students.

We had several families join us for our first PIQE (Parent Institute for Quality Education) presentation last week. The next PIQE night will be this Wednesday, October 9th from 6:30PM-8:00PM. Childcare will be provided free of charge in the library for participants.  Please come out and learn ideas on how to best support your middle school student and learn ways to help ensure a successful high school experience and ways to help make college a reality for your child.

The end of the first quarter is this Friday, October 11th. Grades will be mailed out to families the following week. You can always stay up to date on your child's grades by logging into the Parent Portal. For login information for the Parent Portal, please contact my secretary, Heidi Stefanski at 435-5800.

Middle school can be a tough time for students figuring out where they fit in and who their friends are. Please help remind your son/daughter that when rumors are spread it only causes more trouble and confusion. Encourage your son/daughter to work through a difficult situation by talking with a trusted adult.

Crystal families, today during B lunch as a prank a student pulled a fire alarm pull station. As a result the entire campus did evacuate. Students and staff were not released to return to lunch and class until we confirmed the campus was safe. As a result all 5th period classes were shorter today. Please reinforce with your child the importance of following all safety codes. When an alarm is pulled without a real emergency situation it can cause subsequent safety issues for all students and staff.

    Thank you for your support.

"Good evening Crystal families, this is Kristen Witt principal of Crystal, calling with this week's announcements.

This year, Target will give money to schools all over the country for one simple act: a vote. Our school needs just 25 votes to earn a $25 donation from Target. But that's only the beginning. For each additional vote, our school will get $1 more. So please remember that, although the gesture is small, the rewards are potentially huge. Go to GiveWith.Target.com to vote for Crystal Middle School once a week through September 21 or until Target has given away all $5 million. I have also posted a link on the front page of our Crystal website. Pass it on to your friends and family to vote too.

As a reminder, there is no school, tomorrow, Monday, September 2nd in observance of Labor Day.

This Wednesday September 4th is Back to School night. The evening will begin with a short presentation in the gym at 5'oclock. You will then follow your student's class schedule to hear and see a presentation from each teacher on what will be covered this year, expectations, and partnerships. The evening ends at 6:30 PM.

Please enjoy the rest of your three day weekend. See everyone Wednesday night."

Good evening Crystal Families, this is Kristen Witt, principal of Crystal calling with this week's announcements.

This Friday will be our first Coffee with the Principal of the year. Join me this Friday, August 30 from 8:30 AM-9:00 AM in the front office conference room. Coffee is served courtesy of the Suisun Starbucks. The half hour is spent sharing what is going on at Crystal and getting feedback and input from you. I hope to see you this Friday morning.

I wanted to let all parents know that we had to make several schedule changes for our seventh and eighth grade students. The changes needed to be made in order to balance all of our teacher's student contacts. We tried our best to keep students with the same teacher but just at different periods of the day. In some cases though that was not possible and new teachers had to be given. Any student with a new schedule will receive his/her schedule in his/her 1st period class tomorrow morning.

As a reminder, Back to School night is September 4th. It will be an hour and a half from 5:00-6:30. Back to School night begins with a presentation in the gym followed by 10 minute periods where you will follow your child's daily schedule.

This Friday is our Code of Conduct lesson day for all students. Please make sure your child brings his/her agenda to school on Friday.

Keep reminding your child that after high school comes college. Have a wonderful evening and a great week!

    1. This coming Monday, August 19th is Picture day. Pictures will be taken during your child's PE class.

    2. Back to school night will be held on September 4th from 5:00-7:00 PM. This is a great opportunity to meet your child's teachers and to learn about all of the exciting things that your child will learn this year.

    3. If your child walks to school, please make sure to review the rules of the road with them. Many children have to cross Highway 12 and we want them to be as safe as possible.

"Good evening Crystal Families, this is Kristen Witt calling with a few reminders.
    1. Those of you that plan on having your child purchase lunch at school, please make sure to either send money with them, or prepay on their lunch account. You can prepay on your child's account by going to the Crystal  website and clicking on the Pay for Lunch link.  We also have applications available in the front office for any family that will be applying for free and reduced lunch. The application forms for free and reduced lunch do need to be filled out every year.

    2. For the afternoon pick up time please work with your child to set up a designated pick up location. After school can be very busy and if your child knows where to meet you, it will help with traffic and overall congestion.  In addition, non adult siblings that attend another school are not allowed onto the campus in the afternoon. In accordance with district guidelines, non adult siblings must wait for their brother or sister two blocks away from campus.

As always thank you for your continued support and partnership as we all work together to create an exceptional learning environment for all of our students. We will continue to say after high school comes college.
    Have a wonderful evening."
