Welcome to the Armijo High School 2015-2016 school year. This is an especially exciting year as Armijo celebrates its 125th anniversary. As the oldest comprehensive high school in Fairfield-Suisun, the Armijo community is proud of our history and will be hosting various activities and events throughout the year to highlight the traditions and accomplishments that make our school great.
When you visit our campus you will notice the addition of a spacious and park-like quad connecting the Annex and new Administration-Counseling Building with our Main Campus and Library. Besides making our campus more easily navigated, we plan to use this new space to bring our community together for student activities. We appreciate the hard work that went into planning and developing this space and look forward to the new Armijo traditions that include the use of the quad.
Last year Armijo participated in the mid-term WASC accreditation process and received commendations for the progress we’ve made in implementing the Common Core State Standards and for our focus on improving student engagement. We consider this work ongoing and will continue to focus on student engagement and those instructional strategies that help our students achieve at their highest levels. Armijo’s staff also submitted a self-study report to the International-Baccalaureate program and received approval for changes to the program which are being implemented this year. As we reflect on our programs and our community, we always are reminded of how hard our staff and students work to continue a positive Armijo tradition.
Building community also is a major focus for Armijo in 2015-2016. Armijo is a Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) school which is demonstrated in our positive responses to supporting students both academically and socially. As a part of PBIS, we are implementing restorative practices in an effort to respond to conflict in a way that holds our community members highly accountable while providing them with the support they need as accountable citizens of our community. In 2015-2016 we will again offer Parent Institute for Quality Education (PIQE), a program that helps parents understand the college pathway for their students. In addition, we will offer Parent University opportunities throughout the year and are planning workshop and informational topics based on Armijo’s parents’ requests.
It truly is exciting to be a part of the Armijo community and we welcome you to celebrate our 125th anniversary with us. We are looking forward to a great year!
