Dear B. Gale Wilson Parent and Student,
It is with great pleasure that we welcome new and returning students to the start of the 2014-15 school year at B. Gale Wilson. We hope you have all had a relaxing and enjoyable break over the summer. I am very excited to be back at B. Gale Wilson School as your principal. For those families new to B. Gale Wilson (BGW) School, this is my eighth year as a school administrator with the Fairfield Suisun Unified School District. I cannot think of a better school to work at than B. Gale Wilson School, and I would like to welcome everyone back for another exciting school year.
In this age of school accountability, I find it imperative to discuss the importance of home/school communication and support. It is my philosophy that to successfully educate a child, it requires a coordinated effort of the school, home, and child. This year, the Wilson Weekly Newsletter will be located on the BGW school webpage: http://www.fsusd.org/site/default.aspx, the glass case in front of the school, and in the schools’ office.
First Day of School: Arrival and Departure
On the first day of school, please do not drop your student off before 8:00 a.m. unless they are going to have breakfast. Breakfast service will start at 8:00 a.m. Students may not enter the quad or go on the playground before school as we do not have supervision on the playground before school. Elementary school schedule: gate opens at 8:17; first bell 8:20; class begins at 8:25 and dismissal is 2:33. Middle school schedule: gate open at 8:15; first bell 8:33; class begins at 8:35 and dismissal is 2:40.
Elementary school (ES) class lists will be posted in the glass case next to elementary gate on Tuesday, August 12 at 4:00. Teachers and staff have spent many hours putting students into their new classes. Many factors have been taken into account to ensure that all classes are well balanced. As a result, students cannot be moved to a different class. We appreciate your understanding of this matter.
Middle School (MS) students will be able to pick up their class schedules at orientation on August 8th, 3:30- 5:30 in the multi-purpose room (MPR). Students who are not able to pick up their schedule at orientation will be able to pick it up on the first day of school, August 13th. There will be a Middle school presentation on August 8th, 3:30-4:00 in the MPR.
Traffic: One of the defining aspects of B. Gale Wilson is that we have many students and a limited area in which to drop them off and pick them up. Please understand, however, that traffic congestion in front of the school is to be expected, but is NOT a legally excusable reason for a student to be late to school. Students must be in class and ready to learn when the tardy bell rings at 8:25 (ES) & 8:35 (MS)
We are really looking forward to seeing you all on Wednesday, August 13th for the start of the new academic school year.
Cheryl Jones, Principal
