The Fairfield-Suisun Adult School has provided adult education classes within the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District, FSUSD, for over 47 years. Classes were established in Fairfield during the 1963-1964 school year; the program was named Armijo High Evening School and classes were held on the Armijo High School campus. The following year the program was renamed Armijo Adult School. In 1975 the Adult School moved to the former Waterman Elementary School site located at 1100 Civic Center Drive. In 1978 the program was renamed once again and became the Fairfield-Suisun Adult School. In January 2007, the FSUSD approved renaming the main campus of the school the Jan Hannigan Adult Education Center.
In addition to the main campus, the Adult School has held classes in 22 locations in Fairfield, Suisun and Cordelia. Classes have been held at elementary schools, high schools, preschools, senior centers, convalescent hospitals, and mental health centers to name a few.
In response to community needs, in 2001 the Adult School partnered with Boston-Reed, a private education organization, to provide medical training courses: Clinical medical Assistant and Pharmacy Technician. These programs have been well received.
The Fairfield-Suisun Adult School has earned accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and colleges (WASC) every six years since 1984. In addition the Business skills and Technology Program was designated a Program of excellence in 1998.
In December 2009 the Fairfield-Suisun Adult School was relocated to the former Bransford Elementary School site located at 900 Travis Blvd.
We are very proud of our standing in the community and look forward to opening the doors to success to the community in the years to come.
