Reading/English Language Arts
Students increase skills in oral and written communication. They study grammar and spelling and learn to write essays. Students are able to work at their own pace. Emphasis is placed on critical thinking, life skills and employability skills. Learning to read for enjoyment is promoted throughout the class. Students may
read short stories, novels, magazines and newspapers. Various computer software programs are used by students to improve their technology and math skills.
The mathematics portion of the course is designed to meet the individual needs of each student. The course includes working with whole numbers (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division), fractions, decimals, percents and using simple measurements. Students are able to work at their own pace.
