Originally opened in 1962, David A. Weir Elementary served the children of Fairfield until 1992.
It was then transformed into office spaces and housed the central office of the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District until 2006. It was subsequently converted back into a modern, fully-equipped elementary school.
In 2009, the sixth graders were reassigned to Sullivan Middle School. DAW then served kindergarteners through fifth graders. During that time, we earned the prestigious "Golden Bell Award" in Elementary Technology in 2009 from the California School Board Association.
Recently, sixth graders were brought back when Sullivan Middle School was closed. The FSUSD Governing Board has approved 7th Grade being added to DAW in 2013-14 school year and 8th Grade in 2014-15. Our name was also changed by the Governing Board to "David A. Weir Preparatory Academy".
Recently, I came across a BLOG mentioning how Matt Garcia
(1986-2008), a former Fairfield City Council Member, was a "Rock Star to the students of David Weir Elementary School".
He was indeed.
