GATE (Gifted And Talented Education)
The Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District is committed to the belief that all students should be given the opportunity to develop to their full potential. The goal of the GATE program is to provide for rigorous and challenging learning experiences, which include ongoing opportunities for critical and creative thinking, problem solving, and questioning. All goals are interwoven with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in acceleration, depth, complexity, and novelty. In addition, the program design supports instructional strategies to accommodate student differences and support student collaboration, self-evaluation, and reflection.
GATE Screening is Scheduled for November
To ensure equity among students, all first grade FSUSD students will be screened for possible Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) services. Unless opted-out by parents/guardians with the use of an FSUSD opt-out form, all first grade students will complete the Naglieri Non-Verbal Ability Test (NNAT3). GATE testing for first graders will take place in your child's classroom during the last week of November/first week of December 2018. (Exact dates are determined by school sites.)
Test Request for Grades 2-7
Students in grades 2-7 may be referred by school personnel and/or a parent/guardian to be screened for the gifted program. At this time, we are no longer accepting referrals for the 2018-2019 school year; however, if you are interested in having your student screened for GATE services in the 2019-2020 school year, the GATE test request form will be available January 1, 2019.
