Meet Ms. Katie Hawkins
Ms. Katie Hawkins first joined the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District in August 2006 and has taught 4th, 5th and 6th grade during her 10 years of service to the district. Ms. Hawkins was part of the original staff when the Public Safety Academy first opened for the 2012-2013 school year. She has demonstrated her leadership abilities at the Public Safety Academy over the past four years, by collaborating with the administration, colleagues, and other stakeholders to establish the mission of the school. She has held various leadership roles and helps facilitate the continual development and improvement of the program. Ms. Hawkins serves as 6th grade team leader, site GATE coordinator, and a member of the site Leadership Team. In addition, she coordinates all admissions testing for new students each year and enrollment procedures.
Ms. Hawkins has served as teacher-in-charge when the principal has been absent, and her colleagues have observed her to be a fair and impartial leader in dealing with student conflicts and other discipline issues. Bridging the gap between the outlook of elementary and secondary based teachers is another strength of Ms. Hawkins. She has a unique ability to see all sides of a situation in a clear, unbiased, and respectful manner, in which all parties (students, parents, colleagues) feel they have been heard. Ms. Hawkins offers an innovative approach to problem-solving, which has made her a highly-respected member of Public Safety Academy staff.
Ms. Hawkins also works with the SOFITCITY race team, and members of the community, to not only bring awareness about health and fitness to the students of Public Safety Academy, but also to raise funds for the school community.
Ms. Hawkins is kind-hearted with a positive outlook, a self-starter, and truly passionate and vested in the realization that the Public Safety Academy becomes a model academy for the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District and California.
Ms. Hawkins attended California State University, Long Beach, earning her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Anthropology and a multiple subject credential, CLAD. Ms. Hawkins continued her studies at National University where she earned her Master of Science Degree in Instructional Leadership, and will have attained her Administrative Services Credential in June 2016.
Ms. Hawkins is a visionary leader and life-long learner with a passion for promoting student and school success through collaboration, continuous professional development, and community involvement. Ms. Hawkins is deemed an invaluable member of the Public Safety Academy team by many of her colleagues, who also champion her ability to become an administrative leader of the school.
