TK and Early TK Registration
Transitional Kindergarden, or "TK":
Is for children who turn 5 after the California State September 1st birth date cutoff requirement for Kindergarten placement.TK is the first year of a two-year Kinder program for these students. From TK, they progress to Kindergarten the following school year. The eligibility for TK is based upon California State guidelines, for children with birth dates that range from September 2nd to December 2nd.IMPORTANT NOTE: TK Students are NOT qualified for Open Enrollment Transfers to other schools. They are guaranteed an opportunity for placement at their resident school unless it is determined by district administration that a particular school will not have TK due to enrollment numbers in the demographic area. If that is the case, the parents of that school will be called and offered placement opportunity at another of our elementary sites that have space in the grade, with the parent's understanding that transportation will not be provided. If your child qualifies for TK this year, enroll on the Registration Page and follow instructions to complete the registration at your resident zoned school.Early TK
The FSUSD Governing Board has granted "ETK" (Early TK) placement eligibility for younger students outside of the TK requirements, who turn 5 within the school year, ONLY if space is available, and after all of the official state "qualified" TK students within the district have been placed. ETK eligibility requires students to have a birth date from 12/3/16 to 6/9/17.
ETK Waiting List
At a parent's request, an ETK age-qualified child will be added to the district-managed ETK waiting list by the resident school site staff, for TK classroom placement consideration, after the school year starts. The Elementary Education Department will directly notify parents by phone if space becomes available, with no guarantee of placement.
All students registered and active in 2021-22 TK or ETK, at any school, will automatically "roll" back to their resident zone schools for the 2022-23 Kindergarten year.

Student Overflow Information
Due to the high number of students in your child’s grade, there is a possibility that your child may be overflowed to another school. This procedure will take place according to Board Policy 5116 under School Attendance Boundaries, which states, “the Superintendent or designee may place some students in a school outside of their attendance area in order to alleviate overcrowding. Parents/guardians of students who are attending schools outside of their attendance area shall be notified of the school their child will be attending as soon as possible. If available, transportation shall be provided for such students.” The District understands that this transition may be difficult for some parents and students. But, please be assured that your child’s educational needs as well as his/her safety are the District’s number one priority.
Once a determination has been made, you will receive notification from the school site as to when the transition will take place and transportation will begin. Each day, your child will be bussed from his or her school site to a site with available space in his/her particular grade. As space becomes available at your child’s home school, your child will return to his/her site of attendance.
