Becoming a substitute teacher is a rewarding career. Substitutes play a vital role in the education of our students. They hold the responsibility of providing a stimulating learning environment just as regular teachers do. As a substitute teacher, you accept the functions geared toward students' success and achievement while maintaining a high level of professionalism inside the classroom and on campus while serving as a positive example to our students.

Requirements to Become a Substitute Teacher

Minimum Requirements:

  • 30-day Substitute Permit or valid California Teaching Credential

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college

  • Proof of College Transcript

  • Proof of CBEST

 As of January 1, 2017 a Certificate of Clearance (COC) is required by the CTC. You can apply for the CTC by clicking here on apply for CTC. Please apply and pay the fee. DO NOT FINGERPRINT! Fingerprinting will be done in office if your application is moved forward in the hiring process. Once approved, COC will be provided via email and you will be contacted by a credential analyst to assist you in applying for the permit if needed.

Please note: If you do not have a 30 day substitute permit you must have a bachelor's degree and attach them to the application or note that you have them.

Substitute Pay Information  

Substitute Permit holders = $250.00 per full day

Valid California credential = $250.00 per full day

Retired FSUSD teachers = $310.00 per full day
