Trustee Area Boundaries
TRUSTEE AREA REDISTRICTING
FEBRUARY 10, 2022, THE GOVERNING BOARD UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED
"OPTION A"
WHY THE CHANGE?
Every ten years (or decennially) the U.S. Census Bureau releases the most recent census data to states who are then required to evaluate and disseminate to legislative election districts who determine if they conform to the new data as it pertains to the Federal Voting Rights Act. In California, we are further governed by the California Voting Rights Act (CVRA) which prohibits the use of any election system “that impairs the ability of a protected class to elect candidates of its choice or its ability to influence the outcome of an election.” The CVRA requires legislative bodies (i.e. Governing Board of a school district) to redraw the “districts” or trustee areas using “block-level” data from the decennial census IF the variance of the District’s smallest and largest trustee area are greater than ten percent (10%). This process is known as “Redistricting” and governed in California by the "FAIR MAPS" Act. Our District's variant is 21.99% and the breakdown per Trustee Area can be viewed here.
