Textbook Checkout Information

Textbook Checkout Beginning of Year

To the Mustang Parents/Guardians:

Students will be issued a textbook for each of their core classes within the first two weeks of school. The textbooks should be taken home by your student and kept in original condition. Students must have their current school I.D. for check out and be in good standing with prior textbook checkout/returns.

Students will have until the first week in September to report/return a damaged textbook. It is very important that students inspect their textbooks after receiving them to avoid fees for damages charged upon return of their textbooks at the end of the year or when transferring to another site. Damage fees are posted on the windows of the textbook room. I have also included them at the bottom of this page.

We encourage the protection (covering of  textbooks) with non-sticky materials. This protects from much wear and tear to the textbooks and it is a quick way for your student to indentify their own textbooks from others.

All stolen books must be reported to the textbook room within two days of the incident and the appropriate form must be submitted. The forms titled "Report for a Stolen Book" are available in the front office, library, and the textbook window. It is very important that good care is given to all textbooks. The student is ultimately responsible for the loss.

Textbooks are returned at the end of every school year or during transition to another school. All textbooks are bar-coded and checked out with the student I.D. Books can only be credited back if returned and with the identifiers in place.

Students who are caught defacing or stealing textbooks from teachers or another student will be disciplined accordingly. The education code pertinent to the issue is as follows:

Education code 48904

(b) (1) Any school district or private school whose real or personal property has been willfully cut, defaced, or otherwise injured, or whose property is loaned to a pupil and willfully not returned upon demand of an employee of the district or private school authorized to make the demand may, after affording the pupil his or her due process rights, withhold grades, diploma, and transcripts of the pupil responsible for the damage until the student or pupil's parent or guardian has paid the damages thereto as provided in subdivision (a).
