Coordinator of Special Education Appointed

Dr. Monica Emeldi Monica Emeldi currently serves as a Program Specialist for the Pleasanton Unified School District (PUSD). Prior to her employment with PUSD, Ms. Emeldi served as an Education Specialist for Ukiah Unified School District (UUSD) for two years, following her position with Bay Area Unified School Districts, West Contra Costa and Concord, as an Educational Equity and Title IX Lead. She has actively and consistently served in the education area since 1994 and brings with her a wealth of knowledge in both general education and special education. 

In her current position as Program Specialist for PUSD. Ms. Emeldi effectively represents the district to problem solve complex cases with legal counsel of parents, and through responsive partnerships and strategic planning, reduce legal and financial liabilities of the district by designing and monitoring effective programs and building consensus among stakeholders. The body of her experience over the last twenty-five years to provide instructional, consultative, and evaluative services to support education professionals to improve program implementation would effectively support the priorities of the Coordinator position, and would allow her to function as an effective Coordinator of Special Education. 

Director of Special Education for PUSD, Ms. Mary  Jude Doerpinghaus, stated in Ms. Emeldi’s letter of recommendation: 

“Ms. Emeldi has proven to be a hard working and dedicated Program Specialist. She quickly builds trusting relationships with teachers, specialists, para-educators and administrators at each of her assigned sites. Ms. Emeldi is regularly present on campuses, in classrooms, on the playground, etc. The visibility supports her ability to aid staff based on  observed identified needs for behavioral, academic and socio-emotional supports based on anecdotal information coupled with quantifiable data collection that supports decision making. I am certain she will provide the same level of commitment and support to the children, families and staff in your school community.” 

Ms. Emeldi received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Speech Communication from San Francisco State University. She continued her education earning a Master of Science Degree in Special Education from the University of Oregon. She is currently working on her Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Special Education from the University of Oregon. Ms. Emeldi holds the following credentials and certificates: Multiple Subject Professional Clear Credential, Education Specialist Credential, Preliminary Administrative Credential, and a Cross Cultural, Language and Academic Development Certificate.
