Lauren began her career as an English Language Development and Reading Intervention Teacher in the San Francisco Unified School District (FSUSD). After three years Teaching in San Francisco, Lauren moved to Mexico City where she was employed by Ensena por Mexico (Teach for All Network) and Enova. There she trained and managed 28 first and second year English, Math and Science teachers as well as facilitated an inaugural five (5) week training institute for over one-hundred (100) secondary teachers. She later returned to FSUSD and worked as an Acceleration Director for three years before becoming the Newcomer English Language Arts Teacher, Coach and Department Lead at Everett Middle School in FSUSD. Her desires to become a Site Administrator led her to interview for the Assistant Principal position at Crystal Middle School.
Ms. Vega showed a great deal of excitement during the interview process for the Assistant Principal position. She stated that she is very excited to be able to continue fighting for equitable educational experiences and outcomes for all students. She is confident that her skills in instructional leadership, systems-thinking, and community building will make her an effective member of the Crystal Middle School Administrative Team.
One of Ms. Vega’s letters of recommendation states:
“Ms. Vega is a courageous, skilled, and passionate leader. Her practice has enriched my own and I am certain that her contributions to any school or district will be substantial. Ms. Vega truly is an irreplaceable educator and leader. Her equity stance is evident. She is always considering and advocating for service of Everett’s least reached students. Her confidence in this stance fuels her ability to have difficult conversations with colleagues, and makes proposals to administrators and external organizations for resources of our students."
Ms. Vega attended Stanford University, earning her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a minor in Education. She continued on to receive her Master of Arts in Urban Education and Literacy Instruction with Reading Certificate from Loyola Marymount University. In August of 2019 Lauren will graduate from University of California, Berkeley, with a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and a Preliminary Administrative Services Credential.
