K-8 Academy awarded $20,000 grant to support innovative learning

FAIRFIELD, CA - Sheldon Academy of Innovative Learning has been awarded a $20,000 grant to support the fostering of innovation and creativity of it’s students during the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 school years. The funding for this grant was made possible by the support from Project Lead The Way (PLTW), and in partnership with Ardagh Group located in Fairfield, CA.

Sheldon Academy of Innovative Learning is a K-8 school designed to ensure all students develop their hearts and minds to have a significant and positive impact in their communities. The PLTW modules align perfectly to this mission.

The new Innovation lab is a part of the Learning Commons building newly constructed during the Sheldon Academy Modernization project, funded by Measure J and completed in August 2020.

Project Lead The Way engages students in hands-on activities, projects, and problems that are reflective of real-world challenges. This compelling approach empowers students to learn essential skills validated by industry leading companies. This model provides a connection between what students are learning in the classroom today and how it will apply to their post-compulsory education and careers.

Innovation Lab

Sheldon Academy of Innovative Learning’s new Innovation Lab is a space designed to foster creative thinking and problem solving. This is the space where students will use the Project Lead The Way modules to become innovative learners, problem solvers, designers, and networkers.

“I feel extremely honored for the $20,000 grant to be awarded to Sheldon Academy of Innovative Learning. This is an exciting opportunity for our students because the PLTW modules align perfectly with our mission statement,” stated the school’s Principal, Lisa Lewis. “Our Innovation Teacher, Mrs. King, will use these modules to further empower the students to embrace our theme of innovation.”

Over the two year funding period, the $20,000 grant may be used for staff training and related expenses, required electronic equipment, and required program supplies. For more information on Sheldon Academy of Innovative Learning, contact Principal Lewis at
