Director of Special Education
FAIRFIELD, CA - The Governing Board of the Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District affirmed Stavros Gougoumis as Director of Special Education to begin February 1, 2022. Gougoumis’s experience, leadership skills, and background are a match for the Director of Special Education position.
Gougoumis has served as District-Wide Program Specialist in the Mount Diablo Unified School District. This included time spent serving as principal of a Social-Emotional Educational Collaborative. He has secondary teaching experience having worked as a resource specialist and department chair. In these various capacities, Gougoumis has gained experience in providing district-wide professional development for special education teachers, provided administrative support and collaboration to solve issues at sites, and worked with staff to build their capacity in the special education field.
Gougoumis graduated from the University of the Witwatersrand, South Africa, with a bachelor’s degree in Legal Theory and International Relations followed by an LLB degree in Law (Juris Doctor Equivalent.) He worked as a lawyer in the Supreme Court and served as a law officer in the Air Force. After relocating to the United States, he worked in business prior to finding the rewarding profession of education.
Gougoumis earned his Special Education Credential from St. Mary’s College in Moraga and his Preliminary Administrative Services Credential and Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Touro University.
