FSUSD Summer School in Full Swing

Fairfield, CA - The 2021-2022 school year may be over for Fairfield-Suisun schools but hundreds of students continue to fill classrooms as the District hosts an exciting, comprehensive set of summer school programs. From preparing incoming kindergarten students to extending academic learning opportunities to providing enrichment activities, teachers and staff are carrying their lessons well beyond the traditional school calendar.

In response to the impacts of COVID-19 and with the help of additional state funding, the District has expanded learning for the last two summers, with programs at nearly all elementary, middle, and high school sites. Programs include Kinder Ready, a program preparing 68 incoming kindergarten students for school. Elementary sites are also hosting two week summer camp classes and four week summer academy’s for nearly 700 students. Both the camp and academy are meant to give students additional learning opportunities in reading, math, social-emotional learning and enrichment. Enrichment classes, including videography and visual arts programs, are being hosted at the Sheldon and Tolenas school sites.

Students across the District are also participating in a variety of programs at middle and high school schools. Programs include introduction to middle school and high school for incoming students, enrichment and music classes, and credit recovery courses.

FSUSD is also hosting its annual Extended School Year program to provide specialized instruction for some students with Individualized Education Plans.

Summer Academy teacher, Charlotte Galzote, is teaching 20 second and third graders at Cordelia Hills Elementary for four weeks this summer. She says, “Summer school is so much fun. Everyone is more relaxed and we really try to strike a balance between learning and trying out some new activities.”

The final summer programs wrap up July 8th, giving students and staff time to rest before the 2022-2023 school year starts on August 17th. For more information on Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District, visit
