Suisun City, CA - On Tuesday, October 17, 2023, Crystal Middle School students received a proclamation from the Suisun City Council declaring October as Chess Month and Hispanic Heritage Month in the City of Suisun City.

The achievement was made possible through the dedicated efforts of students affiliated with the Beyond Differences Student Services Organization, the Suisun City Youth Commission, and the Chess Club at Crystal Middle School. Collaborating closely with their campus Community Liaison and Administrators, these young individuals reached out to the Suisun City Council to bring this recognition to fruition.

Crystal Middle School students have always been deeply connected to their Suisun City community. Earlier this month, the Suisun City Youth Commission and Chess Club organized the "National Chess Day Tournament" at the Suisun City Library, fostering connections between the youth and community members. This tournament served as a catalyst for what has now culminated in the exciting proclamation.

"We are incredibly proud of our students who have not only excelled in their academic and extracurricular pursuits but have also shown a profound sense of community engagement. I would like to especially thank David Knott, our Community Outreach Liaison for his outstanding support of these student-led organizations,,” said Jay Dowd, Principal of Crystal Middle School.
