Fairfield, CA - On January 22, 2024, 7th-grade English Language Learners (ELL) from Crystal Middle School had the unique opportunity to delve into California's political history during a field trip to the California State Capitol Building. The small group engaged in an insightful private tour of the Capitol Museum, gaining a deeper understanding of the state's political heritage.

 During the guided tour, students learned about the intriguing history of California politics, providing them with a valuable context for their civic education. The Capitol Museum served as an immersive backdrop, offering a glimpse into the evolution of legislative processes and the shaping of the state's laws.

 Samantha Coughran, Assistant Principal at Crystal Middle School, highlighted the trip's goal, stating, "The field trip aimed to broaden the students' perspectives and inspire them to recognize the significance of civic engagement. By immersing themselves in the rich history of California, these 7th graders gained insights into how laws are created and how they, as future community leaders, can make a positive impact."

 A highlight of the trip included an observation of the Senate and Assembly floors, allowing the students to witness the inner workings of the state's legislative branches firsthand. This firsthand experience provided a tangible connection to the democratic process, sparking interest and curiosity among the young learners.
