Fairfield, CA - In February, Grange Middle School embarked on an exciting educational journey, taking 240 students on three separate field trips to explore nearby college campuses. This initiative aimed to broaden students' horizons and inspire them to envision their future academic paths.
Students spanning grades 6 through 8 had the invaluable opportunity to visit the University of California Davis, Sonoma State University, and Sacramento State University. Each campus tour was planned to immerse students in the college atmosphere and ignite their aspirations for higher education.
Before the field trips, students engaged in a preparatory assignment to familiarize themselves with each college's demographics, areas of study, and opportunities available for first-generation college students and scholarship recipients. This pre-assignment encouraged students to actively explore the possibilities offered by higher education institutions, empowering them to make informed decisions about their academic futures.
"We are committed to empowering students to pursue their academic aspirations and explore the myriad opportunities available in higher education," remarked Principal Heather Oja. "Exposing students to college campuses at an early age fosters a culture of academic excellence and instills the confidence needed to pursue their dreams.
The college campus tours provided a firsthand glimpse into university life, allowing students to envision themselves as future scholars and leaders in their respective fields. By experiencing the vibrant campuses and engaging with faculty and staff, students gained insight into the academic programs, campus culture, and support services available to them as prospective college students.
