Suisun City, CA - Crystal Middle School is excited to announce a substantial donation of $20,000 from the Soroptimist International of Central Solano County to support its annual Science Summer Camp. This generous contribution reflects a commitment to providing enriching educational experiences for students.

During a vibrant Science Night event held on Thursday, April 11th, Crystal Middle School showcased its upcoming Science Summer Camp and welcomed President Suzanne Ng and 2nd Vice President Mary Jo Coan from the Soroptimist International of Central Solano County. The esteemed guests presented the school with a symbolic check, emphasizing the importance of the science program at Crystal Middle School. Additionally, the donation will enable Student Leadership to develop fun and engaging activities and student clubs to expand their offerings.

Lucero Angel and Tara Spinelli, along with Skip Moss, Ryan Lopez, and Abby Dziegiel, spearheaded the development of the Science Summer Camp during the 2019-2020 school year. Initially conceived as a response to the closure of schools due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the program was transformed into a summer camp format in 2021. Since its inception, the camp has been a collaborative effort, allowing students to explore the natural resources of the Suisun Marsh.

Abby Dziegiel, in collaboration with Lucero Angel and Tara Spinelli, has been instrumental in creating a week-long program that offers students hands-on learning experiences and opportunities for exploration in the Suisun Marsh. Through fieldwork and kayaking adventures, students gain a deeper understanding of the local ecosystem.

The generous donation from the Soroptimist International of Central Solano County ensures the continuity and expansion of the Science Summer Camp, providing students with continued access to this unique educational opportunity. Lucero Angel expressed gratitude for the support, stating, "Our main goal is to educate students and the community about the importance of the marsh and what we can do to help preserve it. We were very fortunate to have been discovered by the Soroptimist International of Central Solano, who graciously donated to our program!"

Jay Dowd, Principal at Crystal Middle School, echoed Angel's sentiments, emphasizing the transformative impact of the Science Camp on students. "This Science Camp truly highlights the wonders that are in our backyard here in Suisun City," said Dowd. "We are incredibly grateful that Soroptimist recognized the significance of this experience for our students and generously donated this amazing gift to us."
