Fairfield, CA (February 2, 2026) – Students from the WorkAbility Program in Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District (FSUSD) recently participated in a career exploration visit to Solano Community College, gaining firsthand insight into college life and postsecondary pathways as they prepare for their transition beyond high school. The experience supported the program’s mission to empower students to explore career interests, develop long-term goals, and identify resources that promote future success.
The WorkAbility Program helps students plan meaningful pathways after graduation by introducing them to postsecondary education options and support services, including Academic Success Center (ASC), Extended Opportunity Programs & Services (EOPS), Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education Program (CARE), and Next Up. Through hands-on experiences and personalized guidance, students are encouraged to envision their goals and take confident steps toward achieving them.
“WorkAbility is not just about job placement although that is an important part of the program, it’s about building aspirational thinking,” said Sharryl Carter, the program lead. “Our ETS team works to help students recognize their potential, especially those who may have faced barriers throughout their school years. We remind them that their goals are within reach, and we are here to support them every step of the way.”
Students expressed excitement and appreciation for the opportunity to explore the campus and learn about potential career pathways. Alexis C. P., who is interested in automotive technology, shared that the visit helped clarify next steps. “The campus is really good, and there’s a lot to learn about different career paths. I got to see what classes are needed and how long it would take me to finish.”
For many students, the visit was both informative and inspiring. Student Nathan G. captured the excitement of the day, saying simply, “Best field trip ever!”
District Superintendent Jennifer Sachs added, “We are proud to provide WorkAbility students with experiences that open doors to college and career opportunities. Exposure to programs, support services, and real-world pathways helps students envision their future and take confident steps toward achieving their goals.
