Award is representative of the dedication and hard work of school staff
Fairfield, CA (March 11, 2026) – Fairfield Suisun Unified School District (FSUSD) is proud to announce that Green Valley Middle School (GVMS) has been selected to receive the prestigious 2026 California Distinguished School Award. State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond announced yesterday that 408 middle schools and high schools across the state are being honored with the award.
“This recognition belongs to our entire GVMS team. Every staff member plays an integral role in our success,” said Principal Steve Trotter. “I am deeply appreciative for their hard work and the support of district leadership.”
“We are so proud of Green Valley for receiving this honor,” said FSUSD Superintendent Jennifer Sachs. “We know our collective commitment to equitable, high quality educational programs and integrated social-emotional programs helps us reach our goals for all students. Earning this distinction validates that commitment and reflects the dedication and hard work of our Green Valley leadership and educators.”
The program recognizes outstanding education programs and practices. Green Valley was awarded this recognition based on the following categories:
Exemplary High Achievers: Schools that are among the highest in the state in academic achievement for all students, which have also ensured that historically underserved student groups are maintaining or increasing academic progress.
Achievement Gap Closers: Schools that are accelerating academic progress for two or more groups that have been historically underserved, while also demonstrating achievement for all students that is above the state median and maintaining or increasing academic performance for all students.
