Students from David Weir dancing for the Dance Academy performance

Two-week dance program engaged students in movement, creativity, and confidence-building through the arts

Fairfield, CA (March 27, 2026) –  For the last two weeks, students at David Weir Preparatory Academy participated in the dynamic FORXA Dance Academy. This high-energy program, made possible through California’s Proposition 28 Arts in Education funding, culminated in a dance performance for the entire school and hundreds of family members on March 26, 2026.

After an eight-year hiatus, FORXA – formerly known as Royal Dance Academy – has made a highly anticipated return, bringing with it a vibrant mix of movement, music, and creativity. During the two-week academy, students were immersed in four days of dance instruction each week, learning between three and six routines, including partner dances. Designed for all experience levels, the program introduces simple, structured choreography that encourages even first-time dancers to jump in and participate.

Led by Rogelio Miramontes and his team, the academy offers more than just dance, it promotes physical activity, builds confidence, and creates a joyful, inclusive environment where students can express themselves.

“We are so excited to have Rogelio and the FORXA Dance Academy back at Weir,” said Principal Alison Guernsey. “The energy and excitement the academy generates is contagious and our students across all grade levels truly enjoyed the program.”

One student shared, “It’s hard not to dance with the positive encouragement and energizing music!”

The academy concluded with a special community performance on the school blacktop, where staff and families celebrated the students’ hard work and creativity. Not only were audience members treated to performances by students in groups from K-8th grade, the crowd erupted when a group of staff members put on a performance of their own!

FSUSD Superintendent Jennifer Sachs emphasized the value of bringing arts opportunities directly to students: “Programs like this bring learning to life in powerful ways. Through the arts, our students build confidence and stay active. Proposition 28 allows us to expand access to these meaningful experiences for all students.”

At David Weir Elementary, this experience reflects how purposeful support for arts education can inspire meaningful and lasting connections to learning. The celebration didn’t end with the final performance – it carried into the community as staff and families shared in the pride and excitement – and will carry on into the future for all of their students.
