Student Areli Lopez recently honored for growth, leadership, and resilience
Fairfield, CA (May 11, 2026) –At H. Glenn Richardson, there is a culture of caring and growth that is truly reflective of their commitment to their students. Through strong relationships and a deeply supportive environment, students and staff work together to overcome challenges, build confidence, and create meaningful pathways to success. This culture of resilience and care is reflected in the story of sixth-grade student Areli Lopez Ruiz, who was recognized as a Student of the Month at the April 23, 2026 FSUSD Board of Education meeting.
Over the past two years at H. Glenn Richardson, Areli has transformed into a confident, engaged, and compassionate student leader. Her story reflects not only her individual perseverance, but also the coordination within a school community dedicated to helping every student succeed.
"Areli was shy and quiet at first,” said Laney Northrup, who has been Areli’s teacher for two years. “Now she has grown into a confident, expressive, and resourceful student. Through consistent support and active engagement in the school activities, she now takes initiative, helps others, and holds herself accountable. I’m incredibly proud of her growth. She is truly a model student in our class!"
“Areli represents what H. Glenn Richardson is all about,” said Principal Gary Hiner. “As we have watched her develop into a positive leader on campus and a friend to so many, she has been truly inspiring.”
A bilingual learner, Areli has strengthened her ability to confidently use both Spanish and English to support her academic progress and assist others. Her resourcefulness and willingness to seek support have led to notable improvements in her writing and overall academic performance - clear evidence of her commitment to growth.
Beyond academics, Areli brings joy and energy to campus. Whether through her creativity in art, her interest in puzzles and music, or her willingness to take on classroom responsibilities, she contributes to a positive and welcoming environment. Her vibrant personality, strong sense of style, and natural ability to connect with others make her a standout member of the H. Glenn Richardson community.
“Areli’s journey is a powerful reflection of what happens every day at H. Glenn Richardson,” said FSUSD Superintendent Jennifer Sachs. “When we see students and staff work together every day to overcome challenges and grow stronger, we are incredibly proud”
As Areli prepares to transition back to a comprehensive middle school next year, this milestone serves as a testament to the staff and leadership at H. Glenn Richardson, and of Areli’s bright future ahead. Her recognition as Student of the Month is not only a celebration of her achievements, but also a reminder of the strength, dedication, and heart that define the H. Glenn Richardson community.
