“Know the Signs” workshops in both English and Spanish provide support for FSUSD families
Fairfield, CA (September 28, 2026) – With the new school year underway, Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District (FSUSD) families came together to learn practical strategies for supporting their children’s well-being and success. FSUSD continued its Strengthening Families workshop series with a “Know the Signs” event at Anna Kyle Elementary School on September 15, 2026.
Hosted by FSUSD, the event featured separate English and Spanish workshops presented by the Solano County Office of Education (SCOE). Participants learned how to recognize when a student may be struggling, how to begin supportive conversations, and ways to find appropriate help and resources.
“A student’s well-being plays an important role in their academic success. By providing families with information and practical resources, we can help them feel supported and better equipped to navigate their student’s development and academic journey,” said Holly Collins, FSUSD Coordinator of Parent & Family Engagement. “We want every family to recognize when additional support may be needed, know where to turn for help, and understand they do not have to face challenges alone.”
Through conversations and interactive learning activities, attendees gained confidence in supporting their children’s well-being. They also received practical tools and activities to use with their families at home.
“Early awareness and connection to support can make a meaningful difference in a young person’s life,” said Dr. Veneisha Johnson, SCOE Clinical Services Supervisor. “Our goal was to equip families with the knowledge and practical strategies they need to recognize concerns, respond with compassion, and seek help when needed. When families feel informed and supported, our entire community becomes stronger and more resilient.”
The Strengthening Families Workshop series is part of an ongoing partnership between FSUSD and SCOE and is supported by SCOE’s ReCAST (Resilience in Communities After Stress and Trauma) grant. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) awarded the grant to support local efforts to improve behavioral health, reduce trauma, and foster sustainable community change through collaboration and empowerment.
