FAIRFIELD, CA - Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District (FSUSD), in collaboration with California State University Maritime Academy (Cal Maritime), is pleased to announce the successful completion of the Career Expedition Summer Camp. This unique program offered twenty-five, seventh-grade students from schools throughout FSUSD an invaluable opportunity to gain real-world experience in maritime careers and immerse themselves in the college life culture at California State University Maritime Academy. The camp aimed to inspire and educate young minds about the exciting opportunities within the maritime industry.
From June 11 to June 16, the Career Expedition Summer Camp immersed the participating students in a five-day, overnight adventure on the Cal Maritime campus. In order to secure a place in the program, interested seventh-grade students were required to submit an application accompanied by a one-page written essay detailing their motivations for attending the program. Cal Maritime played a pivotal role in hosting the Career Expedition Summer Camp, offering its state-of-the-art facilities and expertise to ensure a transformative experience for the participants.
Throughout the program, students engaged in various activities designed to enhance their understanding of maritime careers. They underwent basic firefighting training, training in personal survival skills, and participated in a maritime boat tour. After completing the training courses, the students received certificates in basic Marine Firefighting and Personal Survivor courses.

The week-long Career Expedition Summer Camp concluded on Friday with a culminating presentation that showcased the students' journey and accomplishments.
