A group of adult learners engaged at a childcare careers class

Fairfield-Suisun Adult School workshop series connects 32 adult learners to skills, resources, and job opportunities

Fairfield, CA (April 21, 2026) – The Fairfield-Suisun Adult School (FSAS) recently wrapped up its Childcare Career Workshop Series, a two-week program designed to prepare adult learners for careers in early childhood education—an essential and high-demand field in our community. A total of 32 participants took part in the series, gaining hands-on training in child development, mandated reporting, digital literacy, and job readiness skills.

“This work reflects our commitment to creating accessible, high-quality learning opportunities that respond directly to community needs,” said Dr. Sheila McCabe, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services in FSUSD. “By connecting training, support, and real-world experience, we are helping adult learners build sustainable careers while meeting the growing demand for skilled early childhood educators.”

Throughout the series, FSAS participants engaged in targeted instruction to build both technical and professional skills. Highlights included Joy Gamble from Solano Family and Children's Services, who taught an Infant and Toddler workshop; a digital literacy session led by instructor Teresa Carreon, who guided students through computer basics and effective email communication; and a resume-building workshop facilitated by Brian Green of the Workforce Development Board. During this session, participants refined their resumes to align with the needs of the childcare industry and prepared for upcoming hiring opportunities.

The FSAS program also created meaningful connections with local employers through hiring fairs and mock interviews, helping participants take the next step toward employment. These hiring events – open to both participants and the broader community – provided valuable access to employers actively seeking qualified candidates. Additional highlights included sessions led by community partners, and a collaboration with Travis Air Force Base’s Child Development Center. The series was intentionally designed to reduce barriers to entry while equipping participants with the practical tools and confidence needed to succeed in the workforce.

“This workshop series was truly a labor of love and a reflection of what’s possible when community partners come together with a shared purpose,” said Scott Null, FSAS CTE Chair. “Our goal was to remove barriers and create a clear, supportive pathway into the childcare profession.”

“We are so proud of the dedication our students showed throughout this series,” said Elizabeth Kolakoski, FSAS Principal. “This program highlights how adult education can transform lives and open doors to meaningful careers.”

Fairfield-Suisun Adult School continues to build strong pathways into high-need careers, by expanding career training opportunities that support both local workforce needs and community growth.
