Fairfield, CA (October 27, 2025) - At his 12th annual Women of the Year Awards, Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA-08) honored 54 outstanding women who have made significant contributions to their communities through leadership, service, and dedication.

Among those recognized were four inspiring individuals from Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District (FSUSD): Dr. Sheila McCabe, Assistant Superintendent of Educational Services; Marbeya Ellis, Family Resource Center Manager; Shelmae Turner, Associated Student Body Treasurer at Fairfield High School; and Sriya Srinivasan, student at Early College High School. Dr. Nicola Parr, former FSUSD trustee and current Solano County Superintendent of Schools, was also recognized.

Congressman Garamendi praised the honorees for their service and vision, noting in his press release that “these women come from every part of our [8th Congressional] district and from diverse backgrounds. They work in many different fields, but each is united by the profound impact they have on our community and the people around them.”

“It is truly an honor to see four members of our FSUSD family recognized among such remarkable women,” said FSUSD Superintendent Jennifer Sachs. “Their commitment to our community represents the very best of who we are as a district.”

For Dr. McCabe, the event held special meaning. “I was so proud to see our colleague Marbeya Ellis receive this well-deserved recognition,” McCabe said. “I hold Marbeya in the highest regard and am so proud of the impact she has on our community!”

Each honoree’s contributions will be permanently recorded in the official Congressional Record in Washington, D.C., ensuring their stories of leadership and service are preserved for generations to come. Read more in the press release published by Congressman John Garamendi (D-CA-08).
