Only FSUSD school nominated at countywide awards ceremony
Fairfield, CA (December 1, 2025) Suisun Elementary was the only FSUSD school nominated for a Safe Routes to School (SR2S) Award and was recognized at the Solano Transportation Authority’s 28th Annual Awards Ceremony on November 12. The school was celebrated for its strong commitment to student safety and active transportation.
In the event program, SR2S highlighted the leadership of Suisun Elementary School Principal Dr. Cathy Chan, noting her ongoing partnership with the Suisun Community Task Force to conduct a walk audit, develop a student walking program, and host multiple SR2S events that encourage safe and active travel to and from school.
SR2S Program Coordinator Crystal Preacher shared her appreciation for Suisun Elementary’s dedication: “Each year, we recognize organizations that build positive partnerships across the county. As a program coordinator, I chose one school in each of my districts, and I’m proud to nominate Suisun Elementary for FSUSD. You have been such a champion for the program, and I can’t thank you enough for helping me transition into my role three years ago.”
“We are thrilled to participate in the SR2S program and see the positive impact it’s had on our students and community,” said Principal Chan. “It is an incredible honor to receive this recognition from the Solano Transportation Authority.”
Superintendent Jennifer Sachs praised the school’s achievement, adding: “Dr. Chan and her team have built a culture where the school and families work together to promote student safety. We are incredibly proud to see their efforts recognized at the county level.”
SR2S offers resources for schools and families, including “At-Home” Activities that covers key safety topics such as biking and walking resources and videos, activity books, and a Helmet Fitting and Bike Safety Packet.
The Solano Safe Routes to School program encourages children to safely walk or bike to school and supports this effort through free, fun, and educational events and programs at schools, along with safety information and outreach at community events. The program partners with schools, law enforcement, public health staff, city traffic engineers, and community members to improve traffic safety and promote the health and well-being of Solano County youth.
